I found this tattered, worn photo, but the name and call were
faded too much to read. I was able to restore the picture, but not
the identification. If you know who this turkey is (And, NO, it's NOT
Murtada!), e-mail Walt,
k1qs@arrl.net. and if you're the first CORRECT answer, I'll find
something suitable in my junk box to serve as a prize. I promise that
it will be better than a burned, 20 ohm, wire-wound resistor, too!
NOTICE: this contest expires the minute the CQ World Wide DX Contest
SSB begins (0000, 28 October 2000).
Sorry guys and gals, it seems like we have stumped all of you. I know that you couldn't visualize my 'bro' Bruce, K5HAA, especially since you all knew that Bruce had been quite adamant about NOT having his photo posted on the internet. |

All smiles and all curls It could be a Guy, Or just One of my Girls The eyes in this photo Were green as the grass But like time they mellowed As through time we pass The prize for this Question Will be a surprise So dream up an answer Come on now, you Guys Send your answer to k1qs@arrl.net. by labor day! "WOW! that was quick. Already a winner! Tony, WA2JUN, correctly and quickly identified this "beautiful baby," as Sandy, M5AAS, despite her attempts to mislead him by asking what color his eyes were. Again, the prize is so secret, I don't know, but I am assured that it will be on the way in about three weeks time. If you have a contest photo (and prize!), send it along, and we'll try to get it past Tony" |

I met this guy at a WWF reunion luncheon, where everyone was eating
raw beef and burned oysters. At first, I thought it was Kojak, but
quickly realized the error of my ways. If you can identify this
behemoth (and, no, it's NOT Jesse 'the body" Ventura), just email k1qs@arrl.net. Only one guess per
customer, please, and we'll try to find a gift suitable to reward the
effort required to do this. Contest ends March 15 unless won earlier
or extended due to lack of participation/interest.
After 4 months without a close guess, I closed this contest. A month later, I got an e-mail from Rick, N1RG thinking that it might actually be Rob, 5Z4RL. Amazingly, he was right! The prize is supposed to be a "Tusker T-shirt" from that marvelous brewery in East Africa. The first package was mailed in February, and I have yet to receive anything from Kenya. And, power availability problems there have kept Rob off the airways and off the internet, so I can't complain to him, either. |

WHO is this strange operator? One guess only, e-mailed to k1qs@arrl.net. In case of a tie,
identify the year and equipment. The prize for this one is a "Ham
Shack on a Belt." In other words, a used, but working, two meter
handie talkie, eventually delivered to the winner by USPS (and other
systems if International winner). This contest runs from 0001GMT
Tuesday, February 1, 2000 through 2400GMT Sunday, February 20, 2000.
Good Guesses and Good Luck!
"AND THE WINNER IS.......!!!!! Jackie, KG8ET, who realized that the age of the photo meant the only folks on my site that it could be were W1RZH, K1DWQ, or N1RG, because we were the only ones licensed in 1958 when the photo was taken. Of course, it was the swamp rat, and the HT is on it's way to Jackie. Congratulations, Sweetheart!" |
